The month of February offers many reasons to gather and celebrate with your family, friends and local community. From the Lunar New Year to Valentines Day and Black History Month, the month is packed with ways to express love and appreciation and also celebrate different cultures.
At Field, we celebrate our wonderful diverse culture year round and February gives us the opportunity to celebrate Black History Month.
Celebrating the achievements of African Americans is a great way to honor the past and present and inspire the next generation to dream big, problem solve, and advocate for positive change that will leave a lasting impact on our community. Throughout the month, we hope you will take time to learn and share your knowledge on some of the powerful voices and everlasting contributions made by African Americans to make our world a better place.
As you visit the school for Parents Lunch Week this month, stop by the front of the cafeteria entrance and view a showcase of contributions made by African Americans to society.
Looking for ways to celebrate Black History Month? Check out some events going on in the Houston area: - Houston Children's Museum - T. Ellis Artist Showcase and Self Portrait Workshops, music workshops, story time and more
- Movies on the Lawn @ First Colony Mall -
- Schedule
- February 4 at 2PM | Remember the Titans
- February 11 at 2PM | The Princess and the Frog
- February 18 at 2PM | Soul
- February 25 at 2PM | King Richard
- Lone Star Flight Museum - Throughout February, Lone Star Flight Museum will celebrate the achievements of African Americans in aviation. Learn about Bessie Colemen, Jesse Brown and join a Tuskegee Airmen Hangar Talk with WWII Veteran, Bob Wehnert.
- Buffalo Soldiers National Museum - Exhibit: Who are the Buffalo Soldiers?
One of the best things you can do this month is support a local Black-owned business. If you’re looking to eat, here are a few recommendations for some of Houston's favorite Black-owned restaurants. If you want to shop, check out this list of awesomely creative Black-owned shops around town.
Here are a few of the activities being led by Field and the Field PTO throughout the month of February.

The PTO could not do all of the amazing things it does without the dedicated group of volunteers who are so generous with their time and efforts. Involvement with the PTO is a wonderful way to get to know the school, staff, students, and other parents. There are many different ways to get involved. We encourage you to learn more about the events and activities that the PTO sponsors and volunteer where you can. Please note that all volunteers who will be working with students on campus or on field trips need to be registered through the school district’s Volunteers in Public Schools program, or VIPS. VIPS requires all volunteers to register annually. For more information, click here. |
| Main Street Theater @ Field Main Street Theater will be teaching all Field students on a rotational basis every Tuesday and Thursday for the remainder of the school year. Volunteers are needed to assist the teacher, help maintain classroom management and transition kids in/out of the classroom.
You can volunteer as much or as little as you'd like. Please sign up here if you are available and would like to help! |

| Field of Dreamers Garden Club This year, we kicked off our Field of Dreamers Garden Club for our second season!
This amazing program, is run by parent volunteers who donate 20 minutes of their time every Thursday.
In this small amount of time students connect with the Earth, plant a thing or two, learn where their food comes from, sample fresh herbs or lettuce depending on what's growing, get a little dirty and explore the wonders of nature. So much goes on in those 7 beds at the front - you would be amazed!🛠We also want to bring the students to the Butterfly Garden that was built and funded by grants and parent volunteers last year. The Butterfly Garden is located outside the PE room.
If you have 20 minutes to donate please let us know. You may reach Ebony Porter at campfirequilts@gmail.com . More information can be found here. |
