November General PTO Meeting Notes
November 10, 2021, 5:30-6:30 PM
HISD FACE Presentation – Ms. Nora Perez
- Oversees parent involvement at 54 schools in North and Northwest side
- This is Fields’s first year participating
- Thank you to Mr. Zelaya for opening door to Ms. Perez
Wraparound Specialist – Mr. Zelaya
- Welcome to Field
- Will provide round non-academic support for all students, supporting student life
Treasure’s Report – Rachel
- See October Treasurer’s report for details
- All classroom air purifiers have been purchased
Marquee Sign – Emily
- Bids from vendors for replacement of marquee sign have been gathered
- Initial bids are $22K for sign without name plate and $24K with name plate
Upcoming Events – Brandie
- Reminder to participate in upcoming Run-off election for HISD Trustee
- Spirit Night at Johnny’s Gold Brick 6-9PPM. PTO to receive 20% of sales
- January Spirit Night at Sonoma Wine
Family Holiday Night – Naomi
- December 3rd, host a family movie at soccer field with concession sales in place of Santa Photo event like in years past.
- Will set up family friendly activities (i.e., cookie decorating and craft table)
- Volunteers sign up will be emailed out
Work Day – Matt
Saturday, November 13
Work on sanding the soccer field, garden area, paw prints on front sidewalk and other misc. jobs
Gardening Club – Ebony and Kelly
- Officially named “Field of Dreamers” Garden Club, per voting
- Beginning its third week
- All Pre-K through first grade and SEL classes on a 3-week rotation
- Making plans to begin a butterfly garden near Ms. Trevino’s classroom
HVAC Initiative – Gabe Collins
- There is a concern of mold in some of the classrooms
- HISD has done some remediation in the past, but this has not completely resolved the issue
- There is need for a more systematic approach. Meeting will be set up with Hendrickson to discuss what else can be done to address concerns
- Additional data/records from HISD have been requested
Taste of Field – Erica Cesar-Collins
- Community building event in form of bake sale has been planned for next year
- Goal is to engage families and showcase richness in diversity at Field
- Hope is this will be the “First” Annual Field Bake Sale – Taste of Field/Sabores de Field
After School Program – Hai
- Program is lead by Ms. Martinez
- There is concern that after school has been capped out because of limited resources for the number of kids
- Additional programs have been brought
- Soccer Shots is available for K-3rd; a third class will be added due to increase demand
- The Knight Chess School will return in January
- Grant process for funding begins in February. Looking for volunteers to help write grants
- Please reach out to Hai if you have ideas for programming or can volunteer to help with grants
- Mr. Z can look into getting donations for materials for a Chess and Archery Club through Archery Club of Houston volunteers
General School Updates
- Mr. Z has secured 15 family dinners and gift cards for 100 families for Thanksgiving. Thank you Mr. Z!
- Fieldtrips have been approved by HISD
- School Tours can re-start on Thursdays. Opportunities for volunteers
- Patty is working on bringing an art installation to the school in March through the Women in Visual and Literary Arts. Theme will be Hope
